About Smart Energy GB

  • Who is Smart Energy GB?  

    Smart Energy GB is a not-for-profit company created to provide an independent voice for consumers. Our task is to support the rollout of smart meters so that everyone has the opportunity to share in the benefits that they bring for households, our economy and our environment.

  • Who funds Smart Energy GB?  

    Domestic energy suppliers are required, as part of their Ofgem licence conditions, to fund Smart Energy GB and the amount they contribute is based upon their market share.
  • Who are Gaz & Leccy?  

    Gaz & Leccy are characters that appear in our communications. Gaz is the blue one who represents gas, and Leccy is yellow and represents electricity. Together they bring to life the current experience of buying and using gas and electricity.

Contacting Smart Energy GB


Before you contact us

Smart Energy GB is not involved in the practical installation of smart meters – the gas and electricity suppliers are responsible for this.

Please contact your energy supplier if you have any questions about: 

  • your particular smart meter
  • when your supplier will offer you a smart meter
  • the installation process in your particular circumstances 

If your supplier is not listed on our website, please contact them directly to find out more about their plans.  

Getting support

Citizens Advice provides free independent advice to energy consumers. You might want to get a better deal, find out how to make a complaint, get advice about the quality of your electricity or gas supply, or ask for help if you’re struggling to pay your bills.
