SMART ENERGY GB IN COMMUNITIES
Together with our partners we are working towards a smarter and greener Great Britain. In 2019 we worked with 23 regional partners to reach people aged over 65, providing information about smart meters and addressing concerns this age group may face.
Our partners focussed on delivering face to face activity, which has proved to be the most effective way to engage with this group. Regional partners reached people through a range of community events including a choir, bingo, flu clinics and a rural coffee caravan.
Please note: following the COVID-19 guidance issued by UK government, some face-to-face activity has been put on hold or has taken place with COVID-19 precautions in place where possible.
IN COMMUNITIES FUND
The Smart Energy GB in Communities programme recruits partners through a grant-making fund which we run in conjunction with fuel poverty charity, National Energy Action (NEA). We award grants to regional organisations across Great Britain to reach specific communities.
Our in Communities programme has benefitted a variety of communities including:
- People who are D/deaf or have hearing impairments
- People who are aged 65+
- Those who are on a low income

“The partnership funding enabled us to reach many carers in Scotland, face-to-face or online. We were able to give them take home resources and share digital assets in different formats - articles, leaflets, videos and stories. Smart Energy GB also helped us develop our 'smart meter' webpage and regularly sent us news stories and updates that might be relevant to our activities.”
Below is the direct impact of Carers Scotland partnership work on their carer’s network:
"I can see how much energy I have used from my monitor which is really helpful as I can monitor daily, weekly, monthly and annual usage and know if I need to increase my direct debit to cover this especially in the winter months."
"The information session was helpful. Getting a smart meter means we won't need to stretch up to reach our meters anymore, which is getting harder for us to do. We can concentrate on other, more important things."
