Smart Energy GB’s response to the ECCC report on the smart meter roll-out
Responding to the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee's report on the national smart meter roll-out, Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Smart Energy GB said:
"Great Britain’s smart meter roll-out programme is the largest upgrade to the nation's energy infrastructure in a generation, and the Select Committee is right to say that it will provide a vital improvement in service for every household in England, Scotland and Wales, and is also critical for the future security of our country's energy supply.
"I welcome the Committee's thorough examination of the smart meter programme. In particular I was pleased to see that the Committee described as ‘wise’ Smart Energy GB's planned approach to supporting the most vulnerable consumers through the roll-out by working with third parties and public service broadcasters.
"I believe the Committee is right to say that whichever government is formed after the General Election will need to provide strong leadership and management for the smart meter roll-out, to ensure that this critical new technology is delivered successfully to the 26 million homes and small businesses across Great Britain who will benefit so greatly from smart meters."

Smart Energy GB is the independent organisation tasked by government to engage Great Britain during the roll-out of smart meters to every home across England, Scotland and Wales. The organisation will design and deliver the consumer communications that supports the nationwide roll-out.
Smart Energy GB is responsible for helping people to understand how they will be able to benefit from this new technology and when it will be available to them. It has a particular duty to ensure that low-income, prepayment and vulnerable consumers benefit from the smart meter roll-out.
