Smart Energy GB appoints Heads of Communications in Scotland and Wales

London, UK, 30th October 2014: Smart Energy GB, the independent organisation tasked by government with consumer engagement during the national roll-out of smart meters, has appointed Heads of Communications in Scotland and Wales to lead its stakeholder engagement and media relations across Great Britain.

John MacNeil has joined the Smart Energy GB team as Head of Communications for Scotland. John previously held the position of Media Relations Manager at Historic Scotland. Before this he worked at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Weber Shandwick, and was a media and stakeholder manager during the digital TV switchover in the STV regions of Scotland.

Fflur Lawton will join Smart Energy GB as Head of Communications for Wales, following fourteen years in policy and communications roles at the Big Lottery Fund, most recently as senior head of corporate management.

Claire Maugham, Director of Communications, Smart Energy GB said:

"Over the next few years, 50 million smart meters will be installed in over 26 million homes in a national technology upgrade which will transform the way we buy gas and electricity. We need to ensure that stakeholders from grassroots organisations right through to national parliaments are able to answer the nations’ questions about the smart meter roll-out and I have absolute confidence that the wealth of experience of our new Heads of Communications in Scotland and Wales will help us to do that effectively."

Smart Energy GB is also currently recruiting four additional members of the Communications team, including a Media and Communications Officer and Stakeholder Events Manager.
