Smart Energy GB response: The Science and Technology Committee’s report into smart metering

Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Smart Energy GB, responded to the Science and Technology Committee’s report, Evidence Check: Smart metering of electricity and gas

He said: “It’s very positive to see the Science and Technology Committee recognising the critical role of consumer engagement in achieving the aims of Britain's smart meter rollout. And that it endorses Smart Energy GB's behaviour change approach to achieving this goal.

“The committee has also emphasised the transformative effect smart meters will have, not only on how we buy and use energy as individual consumers, but on Britain's energy infrastructure as a whole. Over the past year, Smart Energy GB has brought together British and international experts from business, technology and government to discuss the forward-thinking innovations that a digitised energy system will enable, from new time-of-use tariffs and a more resilient energy grid, to smarter cities and new innovations using energy data.  We agree with the committee that it is essential to communicate these wider benefits of Britain’s digital energy transformation and are doing so strongly through our campaigns.”
