Figures released today from the Department of Energy and Climate Change confirm that there are now over one million smart meters and advanced meters in homes and microbusinesses across England, Scotland and Wales.

Figures released today from the Department of Energy and Climate Change confirm that there are now over one million smart meters and advanced meters in homes and microbusinesses across England, Scotland and Wales.

Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Smart Energy GB, the public engagement body supporting the national smart meter roll-out, said: “Surpassing one million smart meter and advanced meter installations is a significant milestone and achievement at such an early stage of the roll-out, and it’s exciting to see the number of installations continuing to grow. In the last three months, more than 100,000 gas and electricity smart meters were installed at no additional cost across the three nations of Great Britain. Lots of us are already realising the benefits that smart meters bring, including accurate bills and an end to visits from the meter reader, and many more of us will make the upgrade in the New Year”.
