Smart Energy GB and the Royal Horticultural Society light up the night

Smart Energy GB and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) have entered into a partnership that will light up the winter sky at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey as part of the garden’s annual ‘Christmas Glow’ event.

This partnership will see Smart Energy GB install a series of interactive lights connected to smart meters within the gardens as part of the traditional ‘Glow’ event helping to reach people with information about how smart meters work and the benefits that they can bring to households.

By using a series of interactive light installations across two points in the gardens, Smart Energy GB will be able to demonstrate how easy it is to use a smart meter in-home display and how small changes in energy behaviour can bring down energy bills.

Every home in Great Britain will be offered the opportunity to upgrade to a smart meter, at no extra cost. Smart meters bring an end to estimated bills and show how much energy we’re using in near real-time and in pounds and pence.

Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Smart Energy GB, said:

"We are passionate about making sure that everyone in Britain knows what a smart meter is, how to get one, and how to use it to get their gas and electricity under control - just as passionate as our new partners RHS are about their gardens and conservation.

"By working with RHS we will be able to bring to life how smart meters help people take control of their energy spending and demonstrate how small changes to energy behaviour can bring down bills."

Tom Shelston, Director of Members and Marketing at the RHS, said:

"We are pleased to partner with Smart Energy GB in the third year of our hugely popular Christmas Glow event. Their installations will add an extra dimension to our giant, botanically inspired blooms, which enhance the natural beauty of the garden and provide a magical view after dusk. We are looking forward to seeing their inspirational designs."

About smart meters and the rollout

Smart meters replace the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They enable accurate bills, near real time information on energy use in pounds and pence, and greater control over the way we buy and use energy. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure.

There are already 7.7 million smart meters installed in homes and microbusinesses across Great Britain. Every household in England, Scotland and Wales will be offered one at no additional cost. Contact your energy supplier today about installing your smart meter.
