Smart Energy GB report demonstrates impact of work with partner organisations

Smart Energy GB, the voice of the smart meter rollout, has today published a new report which examines the lasting impact of its partnerships with a wide range of organisations across the country.

Working in partnership to make Britain’s smart meter revolution a reality for all sets out how Smart Energy GB’s campaign to help people request and use their smart meters is reaching and engaging diverse audiences across Great Britain. This includes people who may experience additional barriers to accessing information about smart meters because of a mental or physical health condition or those in fuel poverty.

The report describes the principles of Smart Energy GB’s partnership work, using 2016 as the model for analysis. It examines three distinct strands of Smart Energy GB’s work with partners, demonstrating that the value of each activity reaches far beyond the period of initial investment. An example from the report includes Smart Energy GB’s partnership with Citizens Advice which involved training smart meter champions, who then cascaded further training to frontline staff and volunteers across 300 Local Citizens Advice sites. LCA staff now have the information and confidence they need to advise their clients on smart meters.

Gavin Sheppard, Director of Marketing at Smart Energy GB, said:

“The legacy and impact created by our partnerships mean that people across Great Britain can access all the information they need about smart meters, ensuring that everyone in the country is able to participate in the smart energy revolution. The programme also provides an inspiring example of how brands can work with charities and communities, as well as other brands, to engage those audiences that all too often get left behind.”

Smart meters bring an end to estimated bills and show people what they’re spending in near real time and in pounds and pence, via an in-home display. They are installed by energy suppliers at no extra cost.

About Smart Energy GB

Smart Energy GB is the voice of the smart meter rollout. It’s our task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control. Our national campaign is reaching households and microbusinesses in England, Scotland and Wales.

About smart meters and the rollout

Smart meters replace the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They enable accurate bills, near real time information on energy use in pounds and pence, and greater control over the way we buy and use energy. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure.

There are already 8.6 million smart meters installed in homes and microbusinesses across Great Britain. Every household in England, Scotland and Wales will be offered one at no additional cost. Contact your energy supplier today about installing your smart meter.
