Smart Energy GB’s website has won a silver award in the Best Use of Digital category in the Energy & Utilities sector of the 2016 Digital Impact Awards.
Smart Energy GB’s website supports the organisation’s mission – to engage the nation to make sure everyone understands smart meters, the national rollout and how to use smart meters to get their energy under control.
Smart meters are being offered to everyone in Great Britain between now and 2020, at no additional cost. More than four million have already been installed and are transforming the way we buy and use gas and electricity.
The Smart Energy GB website was built using the market-leading web content management (WCM) system Sitecore. ClerksWell, Smart Energy GB’s build partner, helped create the fully responsive and scalable website that can grow as the Smart Energy GB campaign does. The website is multi-lingual, AA accessible, and has a strong focus on providing clear information for people who might otherwise face barriers to understanding and getting a smart meter.
Penny Mills, Head of Digital at Smart Energy GB, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that our website has been recognised for its best-in-class functionality and user experience. We’ve worked hard to create an easily navigable platform to ensure people can find the information they need to be able to fully understand the benefits that smart meters can bring”.
Gavin Sheppard, Marketing Director of Smart Energy GB, said: “I think together we have achieved a site that to those in the know is impressively sophisticated, and to those less confident online is easy to navigate and very intuitive. We’ve broken some digital norms and created what I believe will become new benchmarks.”
The Digital Impact Awards celebrate the best in digital communications. The awards were announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 18th October at The Brewery in London.

About Smart Energy GB
Smart Energy GB is the voice of the smart meter rollout. It’s our task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control. Our national campaign has already begun and will reach all households and microbusinesses in England, Scotland and Wales.
About smart meters and the rollout
Smart meters will replace the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They will provide consumers with accurate bills, near real time information on energy usage in pounds and pence, and greater control over their gas and electricity. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure. Between now and 2020, everyone across England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter by their energy supplier at no extra cost. More than 4 million smart meters have already been installed across Great Britain. To find out how you can get a smart meter from your energy supplier, pick up a leaflet from your local Post Office® branch or visit this page.
