We all use energy everyday, but we don’t often think about the role it plays in our daily lives.
At Smart Energy GB, we've taken inspiration from the kitchen, and even poetry, film and music to show you how smart meters are transforming every household in the country.
The Meters Collection
To celebrate the transition from old analogue energy meters to smart meters in Great Britain we challenged three bloggers to design jewellery by upcycling old meters.
With expert advice from tomfoolery, a boutique jeweller, the pieces are ready!
Signature gold necklace
"My inspiration was a charm style necklace, with lots of little things layered up together.
"The necklace is made out of 9 carat gold and was created by taking casts of the original metal parts and transforming them into precious gold pieces. You can actually see the part number on the golden pronged piece if you look really closely."
Tales of a Pale Face
Polished sterling silver cuff
"At first I thought the task was impossible, almost not doable.
"I picked out the most elegant looking and delicate pieces. Now, what would I actually wear or do currently wear? There was no way these parts could be incorporated into a ring so a bangle it was.
"I love the way the light hits the 9ct gold and the solid silver bangle has got a fine brush silver finish."
Fresh and Fearless
Name plate collar
Taislany Gomes designed a collar made from sterling silver that incorporates a range of nameplates, with black diamonds to the front and rear of the chain.
"How impressive is this? It looks amazing. I don’t have anything that looks like it, so it’s so unique and trendy and I’m sure you guys are going to love it too."
What is a smart meter?
Smart meters are the new generation of gas and electricity meters being rolled out across Great Britain. They show you how much energy you are using in pounds and pence, in near real time and bring an end to estimated bills.
