Smart Energy GB responds to coverage of first generation smart meters

Responding to coverage suggesting that 2.3 million smart meters are not functioning correctly, Robert Cheesewright, Director of Corporate Affairs at Smart Energy GB, said:

 

“We face a climate emergency. Smart meters are a vital upgrade to our national energy infrastructure, putting in place the foundation needed to decarbonise Britain. Everyone with a smart meter has taken a small, but important step to contribute to a smarter, greener energy system.

 

“Any first generation smart meter that has temporarily lost smart functions will be enrolled into the secure national communications system by the end of 2020 and all smart services will be restored without the need for any further action from consumers.”
