The Department of Energy and Climate Change has published statistics for smart meter installations for October to December 2014.
Responding to DECC’s latest quarterly report on smart meter installations, Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Smart Energy GB said:
"The national roll-out of smart meters is well underway, with nearly 1.4 million smart meters now installed in homes and microbusinesses. More than 1,500 meters are being upgraded every day across Great Britain. This new technology is transforming the way we buy gas and electricity and is critical for the future security of our energy supply. Consumers who would like to upgrade to a smart meter should contact their energy supplier, and can find out more at www.smartenergygb.org"
About Smart Energy GB
Smart Energy GB is the independent organisation tasked by government to make sure everyone in Great Britain understands smart meters, the national roll-out and how to use their new meter to get their gas and electricity under control. The organisation will design and deliver the communications campaign that will reach all households and small businesses in England, Scotland and Wales.
About smart meters and the roll-out
Smart meters will replace the analogue meters we currently have in our homes. They will provide consumers with accurate bills, near real time information on energy usage in pounds and pence, and greater control over their gas and electricity.
The smart meter roll-out is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure. Between now and 2020, every home and small business across England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter at no extra cost. Nearly one million smart meters have already been installed.
