Why get a smart meter for your small business?

1. Smart meters send your energy readings directly to your supplier, meaning accurate bills.

2. Smart meters allow you to monitor how much energy you’re using, in pounds and pence, every day, week and month. So you can spot the activities that cost the most, take action to save money.

3. There will be no more manual meter readings to disrupt your working day.

4. As the energy grid upgrades, energy suppliers will also be able to respond quicker if you have a power cut.

Can your small business get a smart meter?

Small businesses with fewer than 10 employees, or their full time equivalent, could be eligible for a smart meter.

If your business has a separate gas or electricity meter you may be able to upgrade to a smart meter. Businesses based at home can still get a smart meter as all homes will be offered one.

Whoever pays the energy bills can request a smart meter. If you rent your business space and your landlord pays the bills, speak to them about getting a smart meter for your building.

We're in the first stages and nearly five million smart meters have already been installed across Great Britain. This is the biggest national infrastructure project in our lifetimes and it will enable a more energy efficient system for Great Britain.
