Can you get a smart meter if you rent?
Renters can request a smart meter if the energy bills are in your name. It's your choice to have a smart meter installed, but we recommend letting your landlord know. Even if your lease says that you need your landlord’s permission to change the meter, Ofgem say they shouldn’t unreasonably prevent this.
What is a smart meter in prepayment mode?
Smart meters in prepayment mode, sometimes called smart pay as you go (PAYG), work like analogue prepayment meters – they measure the gas and electricity you use, and you pay in advance for your energy.
